SOMETIMES A COACH’S JOB IS TO HOLD YOU BACK!

There are some days when you do need to show up if you’re feeling tired, but there are some days when you need to take a step back.   But knowing when to push through, and when to take a step back is hard.

I have struggled with this over the years – pushing my body through illness, extreme fatigue, injury –  as my obsession with training meant that I lost touch of how my body was feeling and responding.  I found it incredibly hard to admit I needed  a rest, and often did extra than I had planned  – even though deep down I knew doing too much was doing me more harm than good in the long term.  It caused me to reach breaking point – performance dropped, injuries became frequent and I was constantly knackered.

All of this changed when I invested in a coach.  Finally I had someone to hold me back.  To recognise if I was not recovering and give me permission to have a few easy days.  To remind me that I didn’t need to do that extra interval.  To reassure me it was ok to miss that hard session if I was under a lot of stress.

Getting a coach was a game changer for me – physically and mentally.  Having that extra accountability and support enabled me to get out of the cycle of overtraining I was stuck in, and take my performance to a new level.  The injuries started disappearing.  Mentally I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.  It helped release the hold training had on me.  I no longer felt  guilty for having rest.  I wasn’t thinking about my next session all the time.  I started to become more in tune with my body and being a lot more compassionate to myself.  I felt stronger, healthier, and happier.

If you know deep down you are doing too much but can’t let go, take action now and invest in a coach to help you break free from the cycle before your body does it for you!
