Why is strength training so important?

Strength training is not just beneficial to athletes looking to improve their performance. It is vital for health, and everyone should incorporate resistance training into their weekly routine.

• Unfortunately as we get older we lose muscle mass. Strength training can help to slow and even reverse the ageing process.
• It increases bone density to help prevent osteoporosis unlike non weight-bearing activities such as cycling and swimming.  
• It helps to reduce body fat and boosts your metabolism by increasing muscle mass. If you are looking to lose weight, don’t waste hours on a cross trainer which can break down muscle tissue and slow down your metabolism. You will probably lose weight initially, but ever wondered why you can’t keep the weight off?  
• Reduces injury risk.
